Keep Your Business Secure With Paper Shredders

Keep Your Business Secure With Paper ShreddersWith the ever increasing amount of identity theft and commercial espionage that is occurring everyone, both at home and at work needs a paper shredder. This allows you to protect yourself and your company from theft of information that is much easier to obtain from trash cans than you might think.

When considering a shredder there are really only a couple of options, the stripe style cutter and the confetti style cutter. Depending on your budget, the amount of material that you need to shred in day and what you are shredding will determine the best type for your needs.

For home use the strip style shredder is a good entry level choice as they tend to be small and inexpensive. Be sure to remember to put parts of the shredded paper in different trash bags so as not to provide a clever thief with everything they need to put the material back together.

The other factor to consider for a home machine is the power of the motor. If you are just shredding a few pages of paper at a time and not more than 25-50 pages a day, an entry level model will be fine. If you have large volumes of paper to shred or things like credit cards that you need to destroy a heavy motor will be needed. If you want even more peace of mind go ahead and upgrade to the confetti type shredder as it is much more difficult for a thief to reassemble the papers cut with these machines.

There are several different models in this category ranging from ½ inch chip size to micro cutters that go to smaller than a 1/6 of an inch. For businesses the industrial models are pretty much a requirement for any significant volume of paper or other materials if the shredder is going to be kept in a common area. If individuals are going to use them in their offices the smaller personal models can be used. It is recommended that businesses dealing with sensitive materials use the confetti type shredder.

If even more security is called for there are industrial units that will pulverize the paper down into dust form making reassembly all but impossible. Once you have decided on the type of shredder that you need for the home or office the internet offers a great number of resources for comparing models on their strengths and weaknesses, costs, size and other factors.
